“All things were made through [the Word],

and without Him nothing was made that was made.
In Him was life, and the life was the light of
everyone.”

John 1:3-4

Jesus is Life.

My mind is trying to bend around this truth. Why is it easy to accept and so hard to imagine?

I look out my window and see amazing colors cascading off of the trees, the sun beaming through the breeze-driven leaves. Birds are flying past and all manner of creatures are foraging through the grass. Life. Beautiful life.

But if I look beyond this scene I see the hand of the Creator Who is Love, Who is Life, at work. Springing from His very Words we come, life from Life. Beauty from Beauty Himself. Surely we – all of creation – are made in the image of the One too terribly wonderful to behold with our own eyes. And so God creates and reflects His very Image on us, imprinting us with the mark of Himself, His love. Truly we are fearfully and wonderfully made.

And though the Image is marred – as we flounder and fall and forget the One from Whom all things are made and from Whom all good gifts come – He loves us still. Yearns for us. Delights in us. Dies for us. Delivers us. Names us. Calls us His own. Brings us to Himself. We are His.

Do you wonder sometimes where you belong? Do you long to belong to a Beloved Who will love you and call you His own and embrace you fully? Do you wonder where you life is going or where you have come from?

Done.  Jesus is the Beginning and the End of us. He is the fullness of God and the very source of our lives. He sustains us by His every Word. He is LIFE.

Give thanks, beloved. The One Who calls you by name and knows the very hairs on your head and the thoughts of your heart loves you as He loves Himself: fully and without restraint. Trust Him. Believe Him. Accept Him. In Him there is no darkness – only Light – only Life.
