In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1
Jesus is The Word: God speaking.
From the beginning, from before the beginning, Jesus is God’s Word alive and active.
What does this mean?
Only that before the sun, moon and stars; before trees and streams and birds; before people walked the earth and anything was heard, written or recorded; Jesus says, “I Am”.
Only that everything created when God spoke was created with and through Jesus: the Word – God – speaking and it was good.
Only that every time we hear God speak in the scriptures – to prophets and kings, to judges and deliverers, to people like you and me – it is Jesus: The Word of the Lord revealing God.
Only that when Jesus finally put on flesh and blood – humbling Himself and becoming like us so that we could become like Him – He gave up everything. Think of it: from speaking creation into being to sweating on a hot day, dirty and tired from walking, thirsty and hungry, bleeding and dying. Amazing love.
Jesus is the Word. And The Word says, “My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, Who has given them to Me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and the Father are One.” John 10:25-30
