Beloved, As strong believers, your attitude should be the same as that of Christ. Philippians 2:5-8 reminds us, that He being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to grasp, but made himself nothing, taking on the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross.
What hope, we as a church, could extend to a hopeless world; if only we practiced, what Scripture instructs. Paul states in Acts 20:35; “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work, we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” He goes on in Galatians 6:2 to remind us to “Carry each others burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
A Church of hope, knows that all Scripture is God-breathed, and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.
A strong church, is a church of hope in a hopeless world. It is a church that works for harmony. Yes, we live in a world, that has many variations, many different ideas, among many different people; and in this world, strong believers must constantly strive to be of one heart and one mind.
We could not have a greater pattern than the pattern of Jesus Christ. He was always working to bring people together with God; so that they could have the endurance and the comfort to live through all the trials and the sufferings of life. A church of hope in a hopeless world, can achieve harmony, when they work for the unity of the church.
In a strong church, a church of hope, everyone accepts one another. There is no discrimination, whatsoever. If we are to be a church of hope, we must accept each other, so that God may be glorified through our lives. No one, is too far gone to be rejected and thrown aside.
In a hopeless world, people are looking for hope; they are looking for the flip-side of despair. They are looking for a church that is filled with the God of hope!
As believers in Christ, the Author of our hope is God; the foundation of our hope is God; the builder of our hope is God and the finisher of our hope must be God.
When you are in the presence of God, there must be hope; hope for a better day, hope for a better tomorrow. There is an inner gladness, a deep seated pleasure. There is a joy, that you can not describe. Peter, put it this way in 1 Peter 1:8 – “Though you have not seen him, you love him, and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him, and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,” and brother Isaiah, puts it this way: (61:10) I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
Hope in a hopeless world…
If your hope is on anything less than Jesus’ blood, and His righteousness; you are living in a hopeless world; If your hope is based on what the politicians promise you, and not on the promises of God, then you are living in a hopeless world; If your hope is not wrapped up, tied up, and sold out, for Jesus Christ, then you are living in a hopeless world.
O why don’t you echo the words of Edward Mote in that great hymn written in 1854: where he reminds us and assures us that “When He shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in him be found; Dressed in his righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne. On Christ, On Christ, On Christ, the solid rock, I stand, all other ground is sinking sound; all other ground is sinking sound.”
If you want hope in a hopeless world, then you too must wholly lean on Jesus’ name. Why not come out of your hopeless situation and step into a beautiful relation with the One that is your hope.
