“The Virgin will conceive
and give birth to a Son,
and they will call Him Immanuel”
(which means “God with us”).
“I love you.” That’s what God is saying. “I love you.”
Every day of every year is Christmas. Did you know that? Christmas is the eye-popping experience that God is with us. When Jesus came to earth to be born in the flesh as a human being, He brought us the revelation of what God is like. But, even better than that, He came to stay.
Jesus is not like Santa Claus, who comes around one night of the year just to drop in for a second to wish us some holiday cheer. Jesus moved in. He told us that He would be with us until the end of the age – until everything is wrapped up: finished.
In the meantime, we are supposed to be unwrapping the gift of God with us every single day. Every day is Christmas when we remember and believe the One Who came that we may experience life and joy and love and peace today. That’s His gift, not stuff, but God Himself living with and in us. In us. Think how much you have to love someone to move in with them, to live in them, especially with all of their stuff!
Open the gift. Put Him on. Take Him in. Let God wrap Himself around you and fill you to overflowing with His presence. It’s the best present you’ll ever get.
“I have given them the glory that You gave Me, that they may be one as We are One – I in them and You in Me – so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that You sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me.” John 17:22-23
